dSome years back I decided to try online dating. I didn’t give it all my heart, so I can’t speak either for it or against it. What I can say is that it took a big chunk out of each day, and as a consequence I only ended up corresponding with a few people. Already back then, my life was life was filled up with exciting life projects, studies, and soul growth adventures, and it seemed like I could find better use of my time than sitting in front of a computer screen writing messages to people – many of which whom did not seem to share my interest in living life to the fullest and passionately blossom into our true selves.
However, I decided to give it a go, and ended up talking with a man who happened to live just a few streets from where I was living at the time. He gave me the impression of being very lively and dedicated, and I felt excited to learn more about him. One thing I do remember finding rather odd about the online dating websites is how people interact with each other like they are doing are conducting interviews on each other. I was sent so many questions, and the whole experience felt rather bizarre. This guy was no different. He asked me what I live for, and my answer was “becoming the best I can be”.
I never once heard one word from him again. I was still quite young, and didn’t know myself enough to know that this is my truth. As a long time student of Carl Jung I know individuation is my path. Carl Jung describes individuation as the process of blossoming into our full potential. Back then however, I was still testing the water, exploring different ways of growing and expressing myself more fully.
I am very thankful to this man, because thanks to him I ended up doing some silent reflection on what really is important to me, and it was there and then I claimed ownership of my vision:
My vision is to blossom into who I am, feeling more connected to myself, other beautiful souls, and the whole Universe.
It is no wonder that one of my favorite individuation quotes by Carl Jung is:
“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”
Carl G. Jung
